Sanding

Sanding is often the first and most essential step in hardwood floor restoration. Over time, wooden floors can become scratched, dented, or worn due to foot traffic, furniture, or spills. Sanding helps remove these imperfections and prepares the surface for finishing.

• Process:

  • Step 1: The floor is sanded using industrial-grade sanders, typically starting with a coarser grit to remove old finishes, dirt, and minor imperfections.

  • Step 2: After the initial sanding, finer grits are used to smooth the surface, gradually removing any scratches left behind by the previous coarse sandpaper.

  • Step 3: The final step involves a very fine sanding that gives the wood a smooth, even surface, ready for finishing.

Maintenance

After sanding and coating, the floor may require some additional steps:

• Buffing & Polishing: For lacquer finishes, buffing can help smooth out any uneven patches and bring out a glossy shine.

• Cleaning: After the restoration is completed, the floor should be cleaned thoroughly to remove any dust or debris left from sanding.

Coating (Applying Finish)

Once the floor has been sanded to a smooth surface, the next step is applying a protective coating. The finish helps preserve the wood, enhances its natural color, and adds durability to the surface.
